Sewing 101 - All About Sergers

My thoughts on a serger are get a nice expensive sewing machine and then get a cheaper serger because you always need a sewing machine, but you can technically live without a serger. Unless you are going to use it constantly or you have a home sewing business. Also, my sewing professor had 5 spool sergers that could change to do a coverstitch. She said she would have rather gotten a different machine to do a coverstitch because it was such a big ordeal to change the machine.

  1. Hi, Thanks for the info. I do have a question. If you were to get 2 sergers and one would be for coverstitching, what would you suggest the other serger be – a 3 spool, or 4 spool?

    1. The other one I'd get would be a 4 spool because there's lots of extra things that a 4 spool can do that a 3 spool can't do.

  2. Nicely done, always good to refresh knowlegde on this stuff! That's exactly what I did, got a nice sewing machine and a semi good serger. Now I have a coverstich machine on my wish list! Thanks for this post!
