I’ve been sewing easy projects lately, but I’ve been really bad at sharing them on here. Taking pictures is all that’s holding me back. And having no energy at 39 weeks. I have finished almost everything on my “to-do before baby” list, so I’ve just been spending lots of time relaxing and playing with the kids.
Well, I was happy where I was until I saw that Becca is hosting a wardrobe in a week: spring capsule sewalong on her blog. A bunch of people have joined in on the facebook page, and it’s really fun to see what everyone is making. I wish I could join in, but my body size/shape and wardrobe needs going to be constantly changing in the next couple of months. But I did get inspired to make two tees that will be great for postpartum.
For both of these tees, I used the free (if you join her Love Notions facebook group) Laundry Day Tee pattern. It’s a great pattern and really simple to make. This first one I made with a rayon spandex blend with a pretty floral print. I was originally going to save this for Claire, but I decided to use it for myself. I’m really glad I did, because I love this shirt. I think the silhouette will be very flattering for postpartum. It’ll be taking me through Spring and Summer. I’m thinking the drapey style will be like a tee with a built in scarf or nursing cover.
The second tee I made I used a heathered black rayon spandex blend fabric. The fabric is fantastic, but it was so off-grain that I used two yards to make this. (I used only used 1 yard for the floral tee.) I had to do some tricky planning to make this tee work. I made it with long sleeves for cold Spring days and for next Fall and Winter.
I wanted to make an asymmetrical hem so I added length to the front, but I forgot to add length to the back. I made it anyway with just a curved back hem. I think it works, and I love the asymmetrical hem.
